Unveiling the Power of Prayer in Evangelism

  • Bishop Berrington Sikazwe
Date preached August 27, 2023

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today’s sermon revolves around a theme of profound importance – the “Prayer of Evangelism.” As we dive into the Word of God and explore scriptures that highlight the transformative impact of prayer in our efforts to spread the gospel, let us be inspired to become fervent agents of change in this world.

II Corinthians 4:4 (NIV) – “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

Living in the World, But Not of It
While we reside on this Earth, we are called to live according to God’s divine patterns and systems rather than conforming to the world’s standards. As believers, our lives are meant to radiate the light of God’s righteousness, dispelling the darkness that envelops many souls.

Isaiah 42:6-7 (NIV) – “I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.”

The world is marred by souls ensnared in the clutches of sin and deception. As agents of change, we must recognize our adversary – the enemy who opposes God’s redemptive plans. This adversary seeks to quench our zeal for the Lord, making it crucial for us to remain vigilant and prayerful.

Prayer: Our Weapon Against Darkness
Before we were saved, there were those who prayed, fasted, and interceded on our behalf. Now, as vessels of God’s grace, we are called to lift up those who are spiritually lost. The world may love darkness, but we are called to bring God’s radiant light to every corner.

Ephesians 6:10 (NIV) – “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”

Understanding that we are engaged in a spiritual battle, we must fortify ourselves with God’s power and equip ourselves with the armor of faith. The invisible realm impacts the physical world, and prayer is our conduit to harness God’s authority for transformation.

Acts 10:38 (NIV) – “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil because God was with him.”

Bringing Back the Spiritually Dead
Jesus, our Savior, is our ultimate example of engaging in powerful ministry. Just as He brought healing and deliverance, we are commissioned to bring those trapped in spiritual death back to life. Many are ensnared by the enemy’s deceit, but the power of prayer can break their chains.

As we venture into the world as bearers of God’s light, let us recognize the importance of prayer in our evangelistic efforts. Through prayer, we align ourselves with God’s divine purposes, seeking His intervention to open the eyes of the blind and to release captives from darkness.

May we be empowered by the Holy Spirit to boldly pray and intercede for those who are lost, believing that the same power that resurrected Christ from the dead resides within us. May our lives reflect Jesus to the world, drawing people to the saving grace that only He can provide.

Let us emerge from this message with a renewed commitment to prayerfully engage in evangelism, knowing that the impact we make in the lives of others resonates eternally. Let us be a light, a beacon of hope, and a testimony to the life-changing power of Christ.

Amen. 🙏
